Exercise on a first date… really?
Why not share your passion for being healthy and
getting outdoors? If your potential partner thinks it's a good idea, you already have some common ground, and you'll stand out from those other first dates over a nervous coffee or a meal.
But what should you do?
Why not try one of these workout ideas for your next first date.
Bushwalking
Bushwalking allows you to workout at a reasonable pace yet still hold a conversation and get to know each other.
The hills and uneven terrain (along with your new walking companion) can all set your heart racing.
Exercising in the great outdoors leaves you feeling positive and invigorated, helping to boost your mood and bond.
Make the date
Agree on a trail at a central location that you're both comfortable with, and that's not too long. Take along a picnic lunch, and plenty of drinking water to help you both stay hydrated. Wear good quality walking shoes, and include a map or mobile in case you get lost.
Paddling
Paddling allows you to enjoy the open water and each other's company in pleasant surrounds. It's a great workout for your arms, shoulders and torso while also strengthening the abdominal core muscles.
Dual crafts such as a canoe or two person Kayak can be a lot of fun and will test how you work together as a team.
Make the date
There are plenty of options when it comes to paddling, including kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddling and rowing. Look into where you can hire water craft in your local area. Wear plenty of sunscreen, and sunglasses that protect your eyes from glare off the water.
Tennis
Can you find your love match on the court? Tennis can be played at different levels depending on your skill and fitness level, and can put your speed, strength and stamina to the test. But it's also social and fun, and the perfect game for two.
Make the date
It's hard to get to know someone over a net, so schedule regular drinks breaks that will keep you energised and allow time for talking. It may also be best to keep things friendly by just having a hit up instead of keeping score. Nobody wants to be a loser on their first date.
Mountain biking
Get off the beaten path together and add a little adrenalin to your first date with some mountain biking.
Cycling targets the muscles in your thighs, hips and glutes, helping you to burn fat and feel energised.
It also pushes the limits of your comfort zone, and is a good test of someone character and attitude.
Make the date
Make sure you feel comfortable wearing a helmet, cause you're going to need one. Plan for regular rest and drink stops, especially at the top of a hill so you can both catch your breath while you catch up.
