That nesting feeling

Like a primal urge, most expectant women feel the need to “nest” or prepare for the arrival of their offspring, generally in the weeks leading up to the scheduled due date.

Humans are no different to many other animal species but the nesting instinct is more pronounced in some women.

Some expectant mums can’t stop cleaning, cooking or constantly packing and repacking their hospital bag.

Personally, at just under a week out from my due date, the instinct has not been overwhelming. I’ve washed and laid out the newborn clothes and sheets, set up the pram, bassinet and change table. I’ve pulled out essential items from storage like my trusty breast pump, baby bath, rocker and, over the past few days, I’ve started to stock the fridge and pantry.

I’m not sure if that’s nesting or basic common sense but I’m at the point where I’m feeling very ready for baby’s arrival. That surely has got to mean it’s imminent, right??

Have you ever experienced the nesting instinct? Were there any peculiar things you found yourself doing during that time?
