10 reasons to run for a cause

Are you thinking about running for a cause in this year’s Blackmores Sydney Running Festival this year? Here are 10 reasons why you should.

Are you thinking about running for a cause in this year’s Blackmores Sydney Running Festival?

Here are 10 reasons why you should.

1.Give something back
Take a moment to consider all of the good things in your life, the loved ones around you and the reasons why you are fortunate.

This is your chance to give something back to a charity in need and to help support those who aren’t as privileged as you. Maybe there’s someone you know who has gone through a difficult time?

Raise money for a charity that’s close to home, or choose to back a cause that you admire.

2. Change someone’s life
Every cent that you raise will go a long way to changing someone’s life, either directly or indirectly. The money that you contribute ultimately goes towards research, studies and support - all of which can improve the lives of those who are helped by charity you choose.

3. Stay motivated to achieve your goal
You’ve committed to a charity and have contacted all of your friends and family for donations. The pressure of meeting your target so you can satisfy both the charity and your sponsors might be the extra motivation you need to stick to your goal and get across the finish line.

4. Celebrate life
If you have survived a serious disease like cancer or know someone who has, running for a cause is a fantastic way to celebrate life and honour those who are affected by the disease. Dedicate your morning run to people out there who have battled cancer by rejoicing in the positives.

5. Reward yourself
Raising money and giving back to those in need is an incredible reward and a precious gift that you can feel proud to give.

Knowing that you have raised money and helped to change lives as you run in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival is a great motivator and can be just as rewarding as crossing the finish line and achieving your fitness goal.

6. Feel like you’re part of a team
If you’re running solo in the race, join up with others who are supporting your chosen charity, as this can really help you to feel like you’re part of a team. Your charity will be on hand to offer support throughout the lead-up to the race, and you may want to get involved in other fundraising events with them after the race, too.

7. Be an ambassador for your charity
When you run for a cause you’re playing a key role in raising awareness of the charity you’ve chosen to support.

Promoting the cause to your friends and family, posting about it on your Facebook page and sending emails to your work colleagues will help to generate publicity for your charity in your social circle.

8. Charities need you
Charities exist to help others in need, but they really do need your help and financial support in order to do so. Smaller charities in particular may not receive as much exposure as some of the bigger organisations.

Your support and generosity is important and it allows your chosen charity to assist as many people as possible.

9. Encourage others to fundraise for a cause, too
By committing to run for a cause, you’ll be setting an example to those around you and inspiring others to do the same – either for the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival or for another great event in the future.

10. Run for charity and run for FREE!
Commit to raising your target amount for your charity through GoFundraise before the 4th October 2014 and you can claim back the cost of your entrance fee.
